One of the first things I really drew well was horses. It's all I would draw when I was little. So much so that my grandpa went out and bought me a "How to Draw and Paint Horses" book and a set of artist's chalk pastels. This was like a hardcore, actual artists instruction book and shit, not those "draw a bunch of circles and sticks and it becomes a horse in this one pose!" kiddie drawing books. I credit this move on my grandfathers part with really getting me into art. I still really love drawing horses, but I never do it
I can't say I'm a big fan of chalk pastels though, colored pencils are my fave analogous media hands down. Picked up a pack of 50 crayola pencils last night and got busy with them. This is the result. I'm not big on using black in a colored pencil drawing, or a painting for that matter. Using complementary colors instead for shadows and highlights gives a much more realistic feel to the tones...
I'm getting back into the swing of these things...so it's not perfect...but it's a horsey!!
Reminds me of how I was with mermaids. In elementary school I drew loooots and lots of mermaids. And colored pencils were all I used for years. T.T Now you're making me wanna do it again...
This is such a pretty image; reminds me of an illustration you'd see in a story book. ^^
